In Maharashtra’s Palghar district, the police have arrested a 24-year-old tribal youth for raping a minor girl. An official gave this information on Tuesday. An officer of Wada police station said that the incident took place in Nehalpada on Sunday evening when the 16-year-old girl had gone out of the house to defecate. The accused forcefully took her to a nearby field and allegedly raped her there.

The officer said that the victim lodged a complaint in the case on Monday. The accused has been arrested and a case has been registered against him under Indian Penal Code section 376 (rape) and sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses (POCSO) Act. He told that the investigation of the case is going on.

In another case, two weeks ago today, officials said a 25-year-old man was arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl at his home in the city’s eastern suburbs. He was produced in the court and taken on police remand. According to the police, the accused, a resident of Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, worked as a tailor in a workshop run by the girl’s relative. An investigator said, “Since the girls’ family lives near the workshop, they used to visit frequently and over the course of four years, the accused became familiar with the family.”

Police said the accused had gone to the 15-year-old girl’s house in mid-September. “When he saw that his parents were not at home, the accused allegedly went inside the house and forced himself on him,” said an officer. Police said that the accused threatened the girl that if she told anyone about this, he would kill her. After that he left the job, changed his mobile number and started working at another shop.

In the first week of December, the victim started having abdominal pain. Her mother took her to a doctor, who revealed that she was pregnant,” the officer said. The family then consulted a doctor at a government hospital, following which the police were informed and a case was registered under IPC sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) besides sections 4, 6, 8 and 12 .
